To the Highland Council,
The petition of the undersigned residents of Nairn, Househill, and Nairnshire and users of the A939 (the ‘Petitioners’) declares that the section of the A939 road, stretching south from Nairn to the Househill Business Centre junction on the A939, being a National Speed Limit (60mph) stretch of road, constitutes a peril to the some 39 homes and business directly accessing and egressing, and to all heavy vehicle users and all pedestrian users of this 876m or thereby long stretch of road (the ‘Road’). The background to this assessment of accesses, users, and the wider road traffic metrics are described in SP+NK document, 42158 Househill Road Safety Assessment for HFBC, first published on 27th February 2024 and submitted to Ward Councillors and the Nairn River Community Council on 27th February 2024 and appended hereto.
The Petitioners therefore respectfully request the Highland Council do immediately and without undue delay re-classify the section of the A939 road, stretching south from the northern junction of Granny Barbour’s Road joining the A939 to the Househill Business Centre junction on the A939, from National Speed Limit to 30mph and do forthwith upgrade the pedestrian and National Cycle Route 1 crossing to clearly prioritise for pedestrian use by way of installing a Zebra crossing. For context, the Petitioners draw Highland Council’s and its’ Ward and Community Councillors’ attention to Highland Council’s 20mph Programme, launched in June 2023.
The Petitioners remain committed to this request and can be contacted at:
